Is the Chinese football doomed to fail?
Posté par ITgium le 23 juillet 2018
Nowadays, Chinese people are generally optimistic. In their mind, there is a strong belief in great days ahead. The fact is that China is embracing the future at a very fast pace, building on technologies and a strong-willed policy. But there is one issue on which they sense deeply and perhaps unanimously that the prospect isn’t promising. That is: Chinese football is lousy and hopeless. There is no shortage of epithets to voice the discontent. As I have talked with people from every region, I collect an endless stream of fierce critics, more than that, a feeling of fatality and powerlessness. People are discouraged, disillusioned and fed up; they want to see action and results.
Quite frankly, I have heard too much that I decided to put it down on paper. I hasten to say to my Chinese friends that tomorrow isn’t already written and that many things may happen in the good direction.
What’s the current problem?
All indicators are apparently positive to make a successful China national team. Money flows on an unparalleled scale. Clubs have mostly unlimited financial resources. They contract at high cost pre-retired European stars. Chinese investors bought up large number of networks services and broadcasting rights all over the world. They acquired shares of overseas football team. Moreover, Chinese audience is increasingly large and ever more demanding. Stadiums are packed full. People are willing to pay heftily. This is a multiple-billion industry. To crown it all, President Xi Jinping, football fan since his early age, made it a national priority for the decade to come. By breaking with bad habits, egos and tricks, State council promulgated in 2015 a plan to expand football in China, among other things, by stimulating young people to engage themselves in this sport. There must be national heroes. In addition to that, China bid for the 2030 world cup is almost official.
No more reason to despair. This new policy should produce substantive results at the long run. To this end, money shouldn’t get the upper head. First of all, good team spirit, hard work, share experience and humbleness. Then, failure isn’t a foregone conclusion. Famous Internationally recognized team fail at the first round. Others, entirely unknown will emerge. The future looks auspicious. It is a question of time and personal commitment. So China can stand on the podium in 2022.
